Conectividad para la EducaciĆ³n 2030

Joint initiative between the Ministries of Education and Telecommunications to bring high-speed Internet to all public schools in the country
I pushed for the project to triple Internet speeds to reach a minimum standard that would make effective classroom tech use possible.
We are also designing a map of school Internet access around the country to make it easier for local leaders to make spending decisions.

Emergency response to COVID-19

In response to COVID and the large increase in remote learning we rolled out Google Classroom across the country. We set up free Google Workspace accounts for any schools that wanted it, reaching 60% of schools around the country.

We also created a series of free online workshops for teachers to learn to use these tools, where we've reached over a thousand teachers a week. Use of Google Classroom has skyrocketed from 150,000 DAU in April of 2020 to 1.5 million today.

Project-Based Learning

I've been promoting project-based learning (PBL), a powerful student-centered learning methodology, through various Ministry initiatives
We selected and trained school leaders from 30 innovative schools across the country to serve as examples in PBL.
We've also coordinated efforts with the Ministry curriculum unit to publish PBL resources including a library of over 100 standards-aligned projects.
As part of the project design process we interviewed dozens of school leaders to create three distinct user personas

Collaborative classrooms

We designed and set up 10 pilot "collaborative" classrooms in schools across Chile. These are spaces made to create more interaction between students to foster social and emotional learning

The pilot is being evaluated by the public schools division to be rolled out nationwide.

Offline educational content for rural schools

For 400 low-enrollment rural schools with no Internet access, we provided Content Access Point devices with selected high quality educational materials including Khan Academy in Spanish, PhET science simulations, a digital library with hundreds of books, and more.

The devices allow students and teachers to navigate on their own devices as if they were connected to the Internet.
